Fourteen years ago, almost all of the most condemning Congressional critics of President Clinton during the Lewinsky situation were themselves exposed as having past and/or present extra-marital relationships.
This is Petraeus’ personal life. Other than finding any indication that this “affair” has effected his professional performance, what rational reason is there for him to resign?
How about a person who is 100% faithful to his spouse in a marriage that lacks respect and is full of vitriol? That too is nobody’s business unless it’s impacting his professional competence.
I hope that future evaluation of Petraeus’ successor’s job-performance will not include scrutiny of his or her private life.
This is a counterproductive and hypocritical distraction from relevant concerns.
