The Guantanamo hunger strike

  • Seattle, Washington

Of the absurdities (War on Drugs, denial of climate change, ending reproductive choice, gun obsession, etc.) in which the U.S. is involved, Cuba takes the cake.

First:                                                                                                                                                     Our continued embargo of Cuba – half a century now – a country that poses no threat to us and is ninety miles from our shores, disgraces the USA in the eyes of the rest of the world.   And rightly so.
It’s out of hubris, and serves no good purpose. In fact, it weakens us.

Second:                                                                                                                                                 Our continued operation of Guantanamo Bay Prison, in Cuba, disgraces the USA in the eyes of the rest of the world.                                                                                                           And rightly so.
It’s out of hubris, and serves no good purpose. In fact, it weakens us.

Unlike most national calamities which have diplomatic/military complexity, the United States can simply:
1. End the embargo of Cuba.
2. Close Guantanamo Prison.

We are disgracing ourselves to ourselves by ongoing foolishness.
Time to wise-up.
