Re NYT article comparing the Tea Party revolt against government to the social unrest in America in the 1960s.

  • Seattle, Washington

The upheaval of the 60s had to do with humanity. It was born the day JFK was murdered in Texas. America was thrown into shock and grief. A month later, the Beatles came to our shores. This was closely followed by our excursion into Viet Nam.
The stage was set for social revolution. However misguided some of it may have been, it had to do with humanity and justice.

The present-day Republican Party masquerades itself as the protector of liberty from the leeches Mitt Romney considers half of the people of America to be. Tea Party consciousness is bigotry, greed, hatred, and ignorance. They barely give lip-service to anything other than megalomania. It’s frighteningly obvious.

Health care disparity in America is emblematic of the cruelty and hypocrisy that poisons our national consciousness. If health care becomes accessible and humane, there will be a tectonic shift towards decency in the course of our lives.
