Re NYT article on the “soaring cost” of emergency-room treatment for the mentally ill.

One of the first things Reagan did as Governor of California was to close the community mental health clinics. This dark-age inhumanity, in the name of fiscal responsibility, is emblematic of the health care system in the United States of America.
The greed of the health insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, and obscene hospital care costs is absolute. Consideration for the well-being of people is non-existent.
There is sickness in the soul of America – violence, obsession with guns,
highest criminal incarceration in the world, feudalistic income inequality, military & corporate control of the government.
But nothing is more obscene than this nationwide orchestration of using health as a major cash-cow.
As a society, we’ve got dues to pay.
